Guerrilla Feminist Focus – Crista Anne

Welcome to our weekly column, Guerrilla Feminist Focus, where we feature one badass Guerrilla Feminist!

Name: Crista Anne
LocationRichmond, VA

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. What are you currently working on?

I’m Crista Anne, a professional oversharer and pleasure revolutionary. I’ve been sharing my life online since before the term blog existed and have worked in various spheres of sexuality for just shy of 15 years. Best known for #OrgasmQuest, my project chronicling my fight to regain my orgasm after becoming anorgasmic as a side effect from the first anti-depressant that has actually worked for me. Beyond Quest, I’m the Co-Chairperson of the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit Accessibility Committee, frequent contributor to the Life on the Swingset podcast and sex-positive parent with my Partner XVO. Writing this from my rainbow filled office while also blowing up balloons for my youngest wee person, if we want to get really exact on what I am working on at this moment.

2. What are you passionate about? Why?

My list of passions is longer than I could begin to cover, but can all fit under the larger umbrella of advocating for progressive causes and sexual freedoms, busting stigmas and educating via shared experience.

3. What activist efforts are you involved in? What causes do you support?

On a local level I volunteer with Planned Parenthood, year round I work on Woodhull’s Sexual Freedom Summit, and I am also volunteering for Hillary because we cannot allow Trump anywhere near the White House.

4. What do you like most about doing activist work on social media platforms? Why?

As a work at home Mom digital activism has allowed me to stay active supporting the causes I love while also parenting. My kids are fairly young and childcare is an expense we cannot really afford. Also, I have chronic pain so activism on social media is something I can do without worry about how much it will physically tax me. There is also that in doing sexual freedom activism, folks are more comfortable with the more anonymous nature of social media. I can reach more people with an article or blog post and engage in more spirited dialogue online than I can in person.

5. What or who inspires you?

You. Everyone who is reading this. Victoria Woodhull, Ani Difranco, bell hooks, Rachel Maddow, my Mom, my Grandmother, Buck Angel, Metis Black. Anyone and everyone who speaks their truth.

6. How do you practice self-care?

Rainbow eye-makeup, black eyeliner and selfies. Covering myself and everything around me in rainbows and glitter. Journaling by hand and playing the Sims for hours on end.

7. Do you have any advice for those wanting to engage in activism (either online or offlijne)?

Narrow down what speaks to you, what you love and then look for small and large ways to be the change you want to see in the world. Don’t listen to anyone who says that digital activism “isn’t real” activism. You can change lives with a blog post or a facebook status. Every single ripple one can create helps. Everyone can make a difference.

8. Where can people follow you online?
